The Value of an Experienced Mentor: Can You Put a Price On It?

Experienced Mentors are key to a business growing successfully.  The value a highly experienced Mentor can bring to a company is truly immeasurable.  In order to expand you will need Mentors to guide and train new employees.  The more experience a Mentor has, the more knowledge they can share.  This sharing of knowledge will lead to a more productive Mentor-Pupil relationship.

From a new employee’s perspective, having someone to turn to for questions and direction is a huge benefit.  Knowing that someone is there to help you can make all the difference in the world.  It is important during the beginning phase of an employee’s career that they are shown the correct path.  Having Mentors available to them for guidance helps drive the employees down the correct path.  It makes the learning process easier and more concise. In fact, it is the key to success.

A Mentor’s experience level is the main ingredient for producing valuable new employees.  The information that they pass-on to their pupils is what drives the growth of the company.  Without their know-how, the next generation of employees would be lost.

The success of the Mentor-Pupil relationship hinges on good communication.  It is important that the Mentor makes their pupil feel like they are there for them when needed.  The pupil should feel comfortable approaching the Mentor will all questions, no matter how insignificant they might think the question is.  The more communication between the two, the better.

The ability of a Mentor to “guide” their pupil is another determining factor in their success.  A good mentor will not simply give an answer to a pupil’s question, but rather show them how to find the answer for themselves.  Maimonides (Moshe ben Maimon, known as RaMBaM)  probably said it best, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for life.”  This is especially true when it comes to building a new employee into a valuable asset.

To sum up the value of having the guidance of experienced Mentors, I will leave you with another quote from Maimonides, “While one man can discover a certain thing by himself, another is never able to understand it, even if taught by means of all possible expressions and metaphors, and during a long period; his mind can in no way grasp it, his capacity is insufficient for it.”
